DIANE FOSTER | NEIL FARNSWORTH

Neil Farnsworth

Ask Neil Farnsworth what he does for a living, and he’ll say he retired in 1999 (after 11 years with IBM and 10 years with Microsoft). But given the number of businesses he is involved with, he is definitely not your average retiree. Among his enterprises: Full Fathom 5 Productions, a company that has produced projects dealing with the nation’s methamphetamine problem; Media Rights America, a content brokerage firm; Universal Equipment Trader, a heavy equipment brokerage; Tag Resources, a benefits services provider; and the Seattle Sounders, a professional soccer team.

Residence: Summer home in Seattle. Winter home in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Family: Wife, Jane, is an antiques dealer. She has a store in Seattle and also does shows throughout the West. Two sons, Matt, 30, and Chris, 27. Three grandchildren. Education: Bachelor of science degree in business administration, Valpo, 1971. On his career: “I was fortunate to work for Microsoft at a time of tremendous growth, and I was fortunate to be trained and developed by IBM to be able to take advantage of that opportunity.

“Full Fathom 5 Productions is my most satisfying project because I work with my son. We have produced a feature-length film called ‘Iowa’ that was in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released at the Village East Theatre in New York City in March. We also completed a pilot for television called ‘Final Cut.’ And perhaps most important, we produced an educational video called ‘Dying for Meth.’ My son, Matt, is the creative talent in all these endeavors. He wrote, directed and lead acted in the movie ‘Iowa.’
